FEATURE SERIES

Making Friends With Ourselves

A 3-part series: April 9th, April 11th and April 18th, 2022

Most of us know what it means to be a good friend - honest, kind, appreciative, supportive, loyal, trustworthy, non-judgement, forgiving, interested, funny, etc.. In good friendships, we can even open up to hearing something we don’t like about ourselves because we feel loved. We feel like we can show up without hiding parts of ourselves or pretending to be something we are not. In short, we feel accepted, which makes us feel received, safe and protected.

Brain science shows that when we feel safe, we heal. We feel good and healthy again. From this state of balance and well-being, we can then see situations more clearly and respond to them more accurately with less fear and anxiety getting in the way. Then we can experience our natural joy, confidence and compassion and we can share that with all other beings.

It all begins with developing a safe and genuine relationship with ourselves - Body, mind and spirit. Join us, and learn how friendliness towards yourself can provide the foundation for a happier and healthier life.

ALL THREE 90-MINUTE SESSIONS ARE HOSTED ON ZOOM

Workshop Session Overviews

Session 1
What is the Wisdom of the Body

Saturday, April 9th, 2022

9:00am - 10:30am PST

In this Session, we will rediscover a much underutilized, incredibly powerful and ever curious part of ourselves - OUR BODIES. We will give our critical thinking mind a rest by shifting our attention to how our bodies feel without trying to change or fix anything. Through guided somatic meditation, mindfulness Body-scan, gentle movement and visualization we will begin acknowledging and relating with our experience in any given moment. This is the genuine ground of any safe and genuine friendship.

Session 2
How to Befriend Our Bodies

Monday, April 11th, 2022

6:00pm - 7:30pm PST

In this session, like a gentle, authentic and curious friend, we will pay close and spacious attention to the places in our bodies that are charged and communicating with us. We will listen as our bodies reveal their insight through their rich language: Thought, images, movements, emotions and sensations. We will not attempt to “label” anything but observe what happens when we engage with our bodies in the process of dialoguing without goal.

Session 3
How to Stay Well While Helping Others

Monday, April 18th, 2022

6:00pm - 7:30pm PST

In this session, you will learn a few techniques that you can return to whenever you feel you need some extra grounding, nourishment and protection. These three techniques will help you maintain your own sense of well being and balance, while allowing you to face all the events in your life. From this place of feeling resourced and grounded, we can then extend out to others to be of help without experiencing burnout or adding to their pain and confusion.

Your body is the greatest friend you didn’t know you had. To feel good and whole is our birthright. And we can start reclaiming it by first meeting ourselves as we are.

All of us opened up and connected so quickly that it immediately became a space full of friends even though I've never met any of them in real life. The sessions were well-organized; even with a number of things to get through we had time to talk and unpack whatever we'd been working with. The sense of playfulness and fun was delightful--adulting can be so serious!"
